The National Lacrosse League franchise Philadelphia Wings announced via Twitter Monday that in-house arena announcer Shawny Hill has been permanently removed from his role with the organization and has been suspended from all in-arena activities at the Wells Fargo Center.
Full Statement from the Philadelphia Wings:
The Wings also announced that they will begin working with the NLL on diversity training with a focus on Native North Americans’ history and traditions in lacrosse.
The suspension stems from inappropriate comments made by Hill during the Wing’s Saturday home game against the Georgia Swarm, who feature several prominent Native American players. Lyle Thompson posted about the disparaging comments on Twitter following the contest.
On Monday Thompson also clarified his statement concerning the Wings crowd.
In the wake of Thompson’s tweet the Wings, NLL, US Lacrosse and IL Founder Bob Carpenter all released statements. On Monday the Swarm also made a statement in support of Thompson and their seven Native American players.
