Nation United Foundation Launches “The Incident Report” to Help Increase Awareness and Address Acts of Hatred, Racism & Discrimination in Lacrosse

(Charlotte, North Carolina) November 12, 2020 – Nation United Foundation, nonprofit affiliate of Nation United Lacrosse, launches “The Incident Report” for the purpose of increasing awareness and addressing acts of racism in lacrosse. The organization began beta testing the portal on August 3, 2020.

The Incident Report is a virtual portal designed to help gather, catalog and coordinate resolutions for events of hatred, racism and discrimination at all levels of competition in the sport of lacrosse. The purpose is to create greater awareness about the need for leaders in the lacrosse community to be more proactive in introducing policies and procedures which preserve the identity and spirit of all its members as the sport becomes more diverse.

THE INCIDENT REPORT: Sweetlax FL Dissociates with Space Coast Stingrays Due to Racist Misconduct

At the Orlando Face-Off Tournament in Kissimmee, FL on July 26, 2020, members of the Sweetlax FL affiliate team the Space Coast Stingrays engaged in an altercation with three African-American players from the True Florida team. During and after the game, one or more players from the Stingrays repeatedly used racist language directed towards the black players, including “Go back to Africa” and “go back to Wakanda”, as well as the term “n–r”. Amherst College has taken significant disciplinary action with the men’s lacrosse team, including parting ways with longtime head coach Jon Thompson and banning the team from postseason play in 2021, according to a letter from the administration sent to alumni and from multiple sources to Inside Lacrosse on Friday.
